Spotfilm Networx GmbH, Germany's largest ad-supported multichannel network, is now part of Koch Films GmbH. The company from Munich has acquired all shares of the Berlin-based AVOD provider, following an agreement with the shareholders.
In order to meet the rapidly growing and constantly developing AVOD market, the acquisition offers new opportunities and a variety of possibilities. These primarily include the international utilization of digital film rights, knowledge and technology transfer, and synergy effects in content acquisition.
"We are very pleased to welcome the team of Spotfilm Networx GmbH. With this acquisition, we underline our commitment to Digital Entertainment while continuing to expand our film business. We value Spotfilm as a dynamic company with an excellent position in a segment that is important to us"
- Jochen Walter, Managing Director of Koch Films
In 2010, Netzkino Services UG and its legal successor Spotfilm Networx GmbH (established in 2018) were founded by Berlin entrepreneur Dr. Peter von Ondarza as part of the Trias Media Group. As of today, it comprises 18 full-time employees and 8 interns. With its 20 brand channels, Spotfilm Networx has been successfully established in the video-on-demand (AVOD) market for 10 years now. With its channel Netzkino, the Berlin-based company contributes one of the most popular ad-supported streaming platforms. With 7 million users and around 15 million film viewings, Netzkino is already the largest feature film channel in German-speaking countries. Koch Films is buying into that expertise to further expand its potential in the growing AVOD market.
"We are very pleased about the fusion of our two companies. The collaboration of the last years was characterized by trust and a close co-operation. The corporate realignment of Spotfilm Networx has been the logical decision. With the Koch Films Group, we have a strong partner that will give Spotfilm's expansion a strong boost. Together we are conquering a promising market and will thus continue to shape the future of AVOD. Therefore, the entire Spotfilm team is looking forward to the new partnership with great excitement."
- Hauk Markus, CEO of Spotfilm Networx GmbH
The acquisition represents a major step towards the digital future for both companies. Spotfilm Networx will continue to operate under its current name, but as part of the Koch Films Group. With the finalization of this acquisition, both companies reinforce their ambitions for a successful 2022.
